In which I attempt to realise a dream, and find I am very NOW!

This might sound strange, but the other night (22/04/15) I woke up in the wee hours with an image in my head of Lorde the singer wearing a suit in a big floral print pattern, a style often called chintz.
Don't ask me why, dreams have no logic, scientifically proven! (Weird dream? Your brain won't even try to make sense of it New Scientist 29 April 2015) I wondered where this dream image had come from, as I could imagine it as something she might wear. I fired up the laptop and did a Google image search for "chintz suit", and got one obscure hit of a guy wearing one. (See Left.) I thought I might follow it up later, as I certainly couldn't find one of Lorde in anything like that. I woke up sleepless another night (26/04/15), searched and found a chintz pattern that matched my dream (See Left). I also looked for a pic of Lorde at her Rock & Roll Hall of Fame appearance where I remembered she had worn a big pink men's cut suit. The pic at Left was at this site, and I copied it, but has subsequently vanished. Maybe the image rental ran out. (See Left, and comments below) I found my laptop didn't have any suitable picture editing software to play with, and stopped there. The next evening (27/04/15) I thought I'd have a go at some image editing on my rather dated Microsoft XP operated desktop computer using the bundled Picture It! software, and after many false starts and much swearing, managed to produce the image at top. Maybe I should retire now and take up fashion design, LOL! I don't know if she would wear it though, florals don't seem to be her thing. A few days later on a break at work, I thought I had better find an attribution for my raw image, as I intended to use it in this post. As noted above, I found my image had vanished from the site where I found it. I made another image search and soon found other instances of the image, and traced it to Getty Images, a huge stock photo agency with over 80 million images, which has spent the last twenty years acquiring older photo agencies and archives, and digitising the stock for online distribution. They charge for use for commercial purposes, but as far as I can see, generously allow non-commecial use imbedded as I have done above left. Serendipitously, in the above search I ran into the site Because I Am Fabulous.com, pictured at Left, where lo-and-behold, I spotted a thumbnail link with a familiar pattern, which led to the very recent posting at Left of actress Anne Hathaway in a large floral chintz print dress! Also serendipitously , while viewing a recently playlisted country-pop video by Little Big Town on YouTube I happened to see a cover version posted only on the 25th of March, and what is she wearing, LOL? |
