Under the sea, out in space, the omnipresent Flying Spaghetti Monster

I was amused to find the English science magazine New Scientist had headlined their PICTURE OF THE DAY 7 August 2015 as "'Flying spaghetti monster’ caught on video off the Angolan coast". (see Left) Note that this is an area known to be frequented by pirates.
My first thought was to make sure the Flying Spaghetti Monster's worshippers, the Pastafarians, had got wind of this manifestation of their noodly deity. Sure enough, at the official Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster website, under the Sightings tab, was this posting: Sighting off the Angolan coast Given my interest in events off-world, I was surprised to find they had also spotted a news item I had missed, regarding another manifestation of Him on the planet Mars. (see Left) I was intrigued by this picture, as initial searches only brought up sensationalist or trivialist sites. I wondered if it was even a real NASA picture, or just a fabrication. Eventually I managed to track down the original NASA image posting. It was taken way back on 05/08/2014, and can be seen in full resolution from a link here. It appears the image the Pastafarians posted, probably from elsewhere, may have had a little "enhancement", but that doesn't detract from the humour of their enthusiastic responses. |
Readers are encouraged to check out the full story of Pastafarianism, which began in reaction to the teaching of creationism in schools in the United States, and involves all sorts of disparate elements, including spaghetti & meatballs, pirates, colanders as religious headgear, beer, strippers and lots more satire of religious superstition.

I was gratified to find the founder of The Church acquired part of his university education right here in little ole' New Zealand.
