I really did a number on my letterbox
21/02/2015
I noticed my letterbox number was looking a bit faded since it was painted on about thirty years ago.
Note the flag on the RHS. This was once a Rural Delivery mail box. When you had mail to send, you put the flag up so the mail person knew to stop and pick it up. The service was discontinued about thirty-five years ago. The post is still the same one, and I have only had to take the box off once to re-secure it when the screws holding it on became loose in their holes. I drew a new number for a stencil and cut round it. I glued a length of thin nylon fishing line to hold the inner parts in place without blocking the paint. I blu-tacked the stencil in place and sprayed it with a can of leftover black semi-gloss. Not perfect, but a lot clearer than it was. |
