Book finished: Nebula Awards Showcase 2012
28/07/2014
I decided to read this anthology as research for my planned post reviewing my interest in Science Fiction over the years.
(Update 17/08/2014 Sci-Fi post now done.) I thought I should have look at what is coming out these days, as I haven't been following the genre for quite a while. I was a bit disappointed to find surprisingly little to make me think things have changed. There was also, for an award entitled "Nebula", a surprisingly high ratio of eight Fantasy stories to only three SF stories. I had to hesitate before allocating this post to the blog's "Space" Category! Standouts for me were: - "Ponies" by Kij Johnson. A creepy little fantasy tale of little girls and ponies. "Arvies" by Adam-Troy Castro. A real "what if?" science fiction speculation that gives much food for thought regarding the legal status of life. Details of the anthology are available here at Wikipedia. |
