Art Department Fail:
Cover for The Hollies' single "Carrie Anne"
08/12/2014
What were they thinking with this picture, which I came across the other day?
It looks like someone has very cleverly edited out whatever wall Allan Clarke, the guy on the left was sitting on, but for some inexplicable reason they have left a dirty great length of old pipe in the pic! Poor old Allan is left looking apparently levitated in a seated position, with a band member staring at us from between his legs.
Not to mention a grotty lump of old concrete left lurking in the foreground. Especially don't mention the lump of concrete. Maybe Carrie Anne is playing hide-and-seek underneath?
Update 12/09/23
Just looked at this again, I now see Allan Clarke is actually standing on his right foot on the horizontal section of the pipe, and the other guy in the foreground is standing on the concrete. However, I still think it is a strange picture for a record cover. It doesn't seem to have much to do with the song.
(BTW, apparently Carrie Anne was actually the famous Marianne Faithfull, according to Songfacts.com)
