As a Westie boy, I found this very interesting, with many street and place names' origins revealed, names I have heard all my life fleshed out, bygone glories and hardships described, and many tales of hard work and enterprise.
Sarcasm alert! It certainly took a lot of hard workers and commercial enterprise to destroy so much Kauri forest, as fast as it was possible to be done at the time.
Generously illustrated.
It's almost enough to make me want to start collecting old bricks!
