Book finished: The Art of Procrastination
04/08/2014
This is a short but cool book. I finished it in a day, just reading on the train to and from work last Friday. I would have reviewed it sooner, but, well......
I thought this was fantastic. So many books of this style are little more than a bunch of stuff you already know cobbled together by someone no better qualified than yourself who can turn out titles to order for a publisher with a series to market. Instead, this is written, and written well, by a Professor of Philosophy no less, a winner in 2011 of an Ig Nobel Prize (coming up soon for this year) in Literature for the essay "Structured Procrastination." He covers the topic concisely, effectively, and with humour. In contrast to most writing on the subject, he doesn't treat it as a failing, but rather as just another character type, and seeks to explain how to make the most of your character without guilt. |
I found his attitude very refreshing; he has a clear understanding of how we actually think, as opposed to how we like to think we think. I kept finding my own thought processes described and illuminated.
I recommend this to anyone, both to procrastinators wanting to understand themselves, and others who have to live with them.
