A visit to the world of the Tool Fetishists
14/06/2015
I have taken a few crappy phone pics of pocket contents before, and considered doing a full layout one, including every wallet item, but it seemed a bit too OCD. Now I find there is a whole culture of enthusiasts keen on discussing all sorts of bags, tins, tool-kits, tool types, and tool selections for both EDC and "emergency/bug-out/get-home" type bags.

Just have a look what comes up if you simply search YouTube for "EDC tools". These guys are "real serious". For another facet of the subject see YouTube search for "Emergency bag".
At least I now know I'm not as eccentric as I feared, when I seem to have done independently what heaps of other guys think about as well, because I too have a tool-kit in my man-bag.

I also have a nice old French Army leather-trimmed canvas rucksack that stays loaded and ready to go with survival stuff, even if only for a sudden fishing/boating/camping trip (that never happens).
It needs a heavy knife; I had one but it was removed for some air journey a while back. I am glad I have just noticed this major omission which must be rectified ASAP!!

Mine is at left, it has been modified by me to make it more compact for storage & light use. I took the two side pockets and rotated them to the front, sewing on a heavy zip to join them. There is also a small buckled strap underneath. The top flap then attaches to the side pocket buckles. The modification can be easily undone when full capacity is required.

UPDATE 15/12/2020
The Leatherman Micra has been carried in my pocket and used almost every day for over 5 1/2 years now,
and it still looks and works as though brand-new. That's what I call well-made!
