Today I splashed out for the $79.95 Leatherman MICRA pictured at left.
I already had a cheap and crappy Chinese knock-off, except I was unaware what it was; I just thought it was a cheap ($10 or so) small pocket multi-tool. I have had to fix it and/or tighten up the screws several times, the bottle opener bent first time, and the tweezers are just symbolic. I have mostly just used the nail file and knife blade; and occasionally the scissors as they are more heavy-duty than the ones on my Swiss army knife knock-off. (That is a reasonably good-quality copy, though not the one in my man-bag, below.)
Then while watching tool porn on YouTube, I spotted that the tool I had is actually a copy of a genuine Leatherman model, so today I went out and bought the real thing.

Just have a look what comes up if you simply search YouTube for "EDC tools". These guys are "real serious". For another facet of the subject see YouTube search for "Emergency bag".
At least I now know I'm not as eccentric as I feared, when I seem independently to have done what heaps of other guys think about as well. I also have a tool-kit in my man-bag.

Mine is at left, it has been modified by me to make it more compact for storage & light use. I took the two side pockets and rotated them to the front, sewing on a heavy zip to join them. There is also a small buckled strap underneath. The top flap then attaches to the side pocket buckles. The modification can be easily undone when full capacity is required.
