Book finished: Quirk

An interesting look at the genetic basis for personality. It is reasonably entertaining, although slightly pedestrian in format, being a sequential run-through of various character traits with subdivision into "facets".
It is a good reminder of the logical rather than emotional or spiritual basis for the utility of tolerance. There is a multiplicity of personality types for good reason, otherwise they would have been bred out of us before humanity even evolved. Speaking of humanity, it is also a good reminder of the case for Animal Rights, in that she is constantly comparing humanity against the personalities of other species. How can you treat anything with a personality without respect? Her little "screen tests" on character types probably won't tell you what you didn't know about yourself, but they do quite clearly remind you that you ARE a type. I got the impression that maybe the author wrote this as an effort in self-understanding, as she quite frankly reveals she is pretty quirky herself. |
