I am a guy close to retirement, and looking forward to it, as work just seems to get in the way of all my interests these days, since I gave up smoking and alcohol in 2013.
I work with wait-generating software on a thirteenth floor in central Auckland, New Zealand.
I have a brain which seems to me to have sidled up to the end of the platform at Normal Station, and is wilfully peering off down the tracks towards Aspergers Junction, on the way to Autism Halt, and is considering stepping down into the ballast to scrape the OCD from its shoes. It formerly served me well as I acted as a telecommunications technician. It wants to break open and repair any "sealed unit" that stops working. It will try to fix anything from mains power to trouser seams. It has had to be trained to accept the inexplicable randomness of the behaviour of people in an office.
I have held a life-long interest in music and books. Now toying with the idea of 3D printing.
I calculate that at a maximum of say, three books a week , I have probably read at max maybe 7500 books in my life.
(My Kobo reader has space for about 2000, and "Up to 30,000 eBooks with a 32 GB Micro SD card". Is that over-design or what?)
I wanted to build myself a synthesiser when young, but then the Fairlight came out with everything I was thinking of. (I note that a once $20,000 instrument can now be had as an i-phone app :-/
My LP records are in Artist alphabetical order, but my CDs are in categories, and my .mp3s are in alphabetically ordered folders by Artist, excepting Various Artists, 2,372 Files, 65 Folders, which shows my tastes have broadened since the Seventies. e.g. I just created a new playlist on YouTube called "I never thought I'd like Funky".
I used to play the guitar nearly every day, but now hardly ever.
I was on MySpace, and Facebook, but unsubscribed a couple of years ago after I noticed I hadn't been to either for months. I guess I'm just not that into Social. I certainly wasn't interested in who had bought sheep for their fantasy farm.
I get annoyed with this American spellchecker that has underlined all my "..ise" endings and suggested I put zeds instead. I use the real, proper, original English, not the new-fangled American version :-)
